You are warmly invited to participate in an HDR Masterclass of the EU-Horizon PAMΞLA research consortium: ‘Papyri and Manuscripts: Exploring Layers of Ages’. The event will be held at Macquarie University on Friday 7 August from 9:30am–4:30pm in Room 113, WW17 (the Michael Kirby Law Building).
This Masterclass provides an exciting opportunity for HDRs to engage with the textual cultures of the ancient and medieval worlds, and to meet and learn from our team of visiting scholars from the Horizon-Marie Skłodowska-Curie project PAMΞLA (Papyri and Manuscripts: Exploring Layers of Ages), of which Macquarie University is a partner. PAMΞLA is hosted by our strategic partner, Charles University, Prague.

PAMΞLA is a ground breaking initiative that seeks to bridge centuries of cultural heritage through innovative research combining two usually separate types of written artefacts: ancient papyri and medieval manuscripts. PAMΞLA pioneers a new research paradigm by integrating expertise from manuscript studies, papyrology, AI-driven analysis, material sciences, and digital humanities. The project combines interdisciplinary expertise with inter-sectoral and international collaboration, addressing some of the most pressing challenges in the study and preservation of these precious objects. This cross-disciplinary synergy establishes a holistic and systematic approach that enables deeper comparative studies, methodological advancements, and a richer understanding of textual traditions over time. PAMΞLA’s findings will not only reshape academic research but also enhance museum curation, digital archiving, and heritage preservation, ensuring lasting cultural and technological impact.
